Another Snow day; Not too much, but enough to get out and while i'm breaking my back the twins will be making snow angles and having snowball fights, One of them inevitably come crying to me because they got snow down their jacket. As I look out this morning of the work waiting for me out there I can't help thinking about those days to come.www.twinstuff.com/twin-baby-gifts/
When I was little one of my favorite things to do in the winter was make igloo snow forts and you can be sure I will be out there again just as a I was years ago. I can't remember the last time I've been sledding. We tried it once with our dog, but that didn't' turn out how we planned. Next with twins flying down the hill, mother yelling "you're going to fast!" while the twins yelling "faster, faster!" and me, caught in between and just enjoying the experience. I expect one of our sledding adventures ending in the Emergency room hopefully with only small wound to fix up and a child crying like their leg is being amputated.
Yet another joy of winter is the snowman. When were young there was an unwritten rule to who could make the best and "most awesome" snowman. Believe or not it was amazing how large we could make them. Of course without the permission of our parents we used their most expensive later and step stools, but the punishment was worth it if you're snowman head towered over your neighbors. I can remember when the first snow came and when they were a little dirty because an inch or two was not ideal for snowmen. Then "the big one" came and, from our perspective they towered over houses. The end of the year all we could do is admire them melt away and start counting the days until the next first snow fall.
It makes winter take a different turn. Sure I will be looking forward to summer, but I feel winter will have a different meaning with kids running around. I just hope they like winter or else I'm going to be in deep trouble.
Above all, the Christmas lights completed winter. There was nothing more mesmerizing than walking down the sidewalk wrapped in your favorite coat scarf and gloves comparing to which house you thought had the most lights on it. I remember yelling at my dad "more lights, more lights" I was so excited, but could never understand why he got mad after being on the roof in 30 degree weather for hours on end. I guess I now understand as I'm the one dangling off the roof figuring out how to hang the lights as my two children keep giving orders to what they want where putting the pressure on because they always wanted more lights than the neighbors.
After everything is done with, everyone is so cold they can't move, hands are blue and smiles have faded into this desperate look of wanted to get inside its finally time to warm up. The lights are up, snowman made, snow fort ready for battle, and sidewalks clean. Hot chocolate is the only thing that can finally top off the perfect day. luckily mom knows this and has it all ready. Running inside wrestling with our boots and frozen laces, dropping all our jackets on the floor we are finally ready for that hot chocolate. Normally mom yells at us for throwing everything on the floor, but not today, why? Because it was the end of a perfect family day that will never be forgotten. Why? Because the entire time mom was inside wrapped tight in her warm robe laughing and taking pictures of us working, building and creating works of art.
